Things to do in White Cliffs and surrounds

White Cliffs is geographically located in the centre of a number of National Parks with a rich history of Aboriginal heritage.  The National Parks Visitors Centre in White Cliffs is the starting point for discovering the Paroo Darling National Park where you can learn about the Paroo Darling River, its life and its people.  Lake Peery is a spectacular shallow inland lake with water coming from the Paroo River.  Once full it can hold water for 3 years, but when it doesn’t rain and the lake is empty, water continues to seep into the mound springs.

Mutawintji National Park can be reached on a day trip from White Cliffs, and boasts some of the most magnificent creeks and gorges in the area.  There are ancient landscapes, an area steeped in history, rock etchings and traditional sites throughout the area.  You will need to contact the Park directly for information and for day tours through the historic site you can book through Tri-State Safaris 1300 688 225 or by email tours@tristate.com.au

A little further afield, in Kinchega National Park (near Menindee) and Sturts National Park on the way to Tibooburra.

For more information about the National Parks in the area, contact the NSW National Parks directly.

An hour south of White Cliffs on the sealed road is Wilcannia, which was once the third-largest shipping port in Australia.  It is part of the Murray Darling river system, and the home of the Barkindji or people of the river. Warrawong on the Darling is a beautiful holiday park with self-contained cabins and powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites available. You can book through their website. www.warrawongonthedarling.com.au or by calling 1300 688 225.

On the way north, you will find the Reola Woolshed, a modern shearing shed with a unique design.

And lookout for the ‘Tool Tree’ on the way to Tibooburra at the junction of the Silver City Highway and White Cliffs Road.  Call in and spend some time at the historic township of Milparinka,  or enjoy a spell, a chat and refreshments at the Packsaddle Roadhouse located on the Silver City Highway.

Why not check out our other sister properties located across the far west of NSW. The group, Out of the Ordinary Outback owns a number of other properties in Wilcannia, White Cliffs, Ivanhoe and Broken Hill.  Visiting the  Out of the Ordinary Outback website for more information or call 1300679688 for all your accommodation and touring options.
