By car it is nearly 1200km, 12 hours drive, but all good bitumen roads. I suggest if you want to drive that either Dubbo or Nyngan are good point to break the journey. If you are traveling by car, a good break at Cobar is a fairly good idea, as it is a straight 250km from Cobar to Wilcannia. And you need to plan to arrive at White Cliffs well before dark as there is lots of wildlife, and the last 100km there is also black cattle.
Basically you go through Nyngan, then turn left towards Broken Hill and follow the Barrier Highway through Cobar to Wilcannia. Just past Wilcannia you turn right towards White Cliffs and go the last 95km. The Motel is on Smith Hill – and well signposted.
By train/bus, the XPT leaves Sydney about 7.30am and it goes through to Dubbo. From Dubbo you will swap to a Countrylink bus, which goes through to Broken Hill. However you will get off at Wilcannia about 9pm and and we can arrange to meet you there. At night it takes another hour to an hour and a half to get to White Cliffs. By plane, commercial flights arrive at Broken Hill where you can hire a car, or join one of the tour companies on their trips to White Cliffs. White Cliffs has an all weather airstrip, where the Royal Flying Doctor Service, private pilots and chartered flights land and take off.
